On December 1st, 2014 an article about one of our dogs, BHRR’s Triumph was featured in the Northern Pen Newspaper.
On February 3rd, 2014, Claudia Cautillo from CTV Ottawa from recommendations made by several including a Board Member of another r/q rescue Danes in Distress, emailed myself to make a statement in regards to “Charlie” – the emaciated, neglected Great Dane recently bought and surrendered to the OHS. I was referred to as a well respected and highly regarded Great Dane expert in the community, and, that my opinions/feedback in regards to this case plus how one should properly care for this breed etc., was requested. Claudia plans on doing a follow-up on this story and will contact DiD and BHRR for appropriate further expert input.
There was a voting contest recently for the Most Influential Dog Blog online and the competition was quite tough AND, thanks to such an incredible surrounding community The Ottawa Dog Blog WON! By taking 60% of the votes! Liz/Jane were offered a very generous $500 donation to a charity of their choice on August 1st, 2013 by the hosts of this contest – Camp Cookstown – and they chose BHRR!
On Monday January 21st, 2013, I was contacted by Veronica Sutherland who works part-time on air for Jack FM. She is doing a new segment on adopting animals that shall air every Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday evenings around 7:45 pm approximately. She shall feature an animal from a local organization that needs a forever loving home. A photo shall also be placed up on their fb page.
On Saturday December 1st, 2012, I, along with family and supporters attended the first EVER Quebec Rescuer Of The Year Award Events/Ceremonies hosted in Montreal, Quebec. BHRR had been nominated to be considered amongst quite a few other r/q groups/org.’s to receive one of three rescuer of the year grants/awards being handed out. They also handed out 2, ‘Under The Radar’ checks to two groups felt to be doing good work in the community. Guardians Best Animal Rescue Foundation and Montreal Dog blog awarded one of the three Rescuer Of The Year Grants – $500 to BHRR for the much needed specialized work that we do and the positive differences we make for animals in need in so many communities. BHRR was the ONLY Rescue outside of the province of Quebec to have received such a honourable grant and we remain so humbled plus privileged to have even been considered, let alone chosen. THANK you for such an honour!

On Thursday November 8th, 2012, I was contacted by a wonderful friend that they had submitted a stunning photo to a contest that 93.9BOBFm was hosting with Global Pet Foods and was one of four finalists. Should she win the $3,500 in food prized so very generously donated from Global Pet Foods, she would be donating the prize to our Rescue group. On Friday, November 9th, 2012, I was informed by this amazing friend, Christy that she had won and THANK YOU from my heart AGAIN to Christy, 93.9BOBFm and Global Pet foods for everything. My promise to other r/q groups in need would be that I would share this prize.
On Saturday July 28th, 2012; BHRR was contacted to be the recipients of funds raised by a special ‘Dog/Movie’ Event being held at Parkdale Park by Global Pet Foods Hintonburg & the Hintonburg Community Association. $373.25 was raised and it was covered by several media venus including the Ottawa Citizen Photos, the Ottawa Citizen Story & CTV News Ottawa.
On Monday March 26th, 2012; I went to Earl of March Secondary School in Kanata to be interviewed K. Smetters & D. McCarron and to talk to their Grade 10 Civics & Careers class.
On Friday February 10th, 2012, Gwendilin was contacted by Deborah MacAskill of CBC Ottawa Morning, to do an interview on Monday February 13th, regarding BHRR’s Journey. The Radio Show Interview can be found HERE. This interview was re-aired on Tuesday February 14th, 2012.

On Wednesday August 10th, 2011; George Dupras, Quebec Director of the Animal Alliance of Canada contacted myself to do a piece of BHRR’s Oceané – a deaf emaciated GD that he had asked us to assist back in January of 2009. He is publishing a book and the book deals with different attitudes that people have regarding animals and the environment that sustains them. Some people see animals strictly from a capital perspective while others are steeped in the intrinsic value. BHRR’s Oceané was successfully adopted in April of 2009 after a long rehab journey.

On Sunday July 31st, 2011; L. Bradley of the Ottawa Dog Blog shall be attending our GD & Honoury GD Walk/Hike to do a story on our group; which is the largest in the area plus how we use this as a educational public awareness opportunity to promote responsible dog ownership. These walks/hikes have been in existence for over 15 years now.
On Friday June 7th, 2011; Gwendilin was referred by L. Bradley of the Ottawa Dog Blog; to Julia Johnson of the Ottawa Citizen to be interviewed re: the hight volume of dogs that have gone missing in the area recently.
On Wednesday May 25th, 2011; Gwendilin was contacted by Ashley Burke of CBC News Ottawa to be interviewed re: the high volume of dogs that have gone missing in the Kemptville, Ontario area.
On Saturday May 14th, 2011, BHRR was contacted by D. Flaim, Contributing Editor of Dog Fancy Magazine about doing an inspirational piece on a BHRR animal, their story plus interviewing that animals forever loving adoptive home.
On March 31st, 2011, I shall be interviewd by J. Migeault freeland reporter for a local news website – Open File Ottawa. They solicit story ideas from readers and wished to obtain my professional views regarding such important matters as: Ottawa being dog friendly, animal welfare issues; off-leash parks; dogs on buses, BHRR’s Mandates/Accomplishments etc. Deepest appreciation extended to Liz Bradley of the Ottawa Dog Blog for the recommendation to be able to have the opportunity to contribute on such important matters. ‘BIG FRIENDLY GIANTS FIND REFUGE’ about BHRR by C. Rowsell – Published May 30th, 2010
In February of 2010, BHRR was asked by M. Boers; son of Founder G. Boers to attend Holy Cross Public School in Kemptville, Ontario as part of his school project speaking presentation. In 2009, M. Boers spoke about G. Boers Showing Great Danes/Reputable&Quality Breeders etc. and he was so successful he was asked to repeat this speech to the whole school. In 2010; M. Boers decided that he would like to speak about G. Boers and her rescue of BHRR Inc. BHRR Inc. is currently waiting on the date/time TBD. We will be bringing in at least one BHRR animal. and to answer questions.
On January 23th, 2010; Gwendilin was contacted by former fellow Rogers Colleague, A. Singh; who now works for CBC Ottawa TV News in respect to our food shortage and doing a possible interview.
On January 11th, 2010; BHRR was contacted by Lisa Elderfield, a Grade 6 student at W.O.Mitchell E.S. in Kanata who inquired to see if BHRR would be open to being the recipient of a community school project that she and her friend Emily would be doing. ‘Nobody Project’ will be running every Friday in the month of February 2010 whereby Emily and Lisa will visit the classrooms in their school; collecting much need donations of food, toys, stamps etc. for BHRR. Additionally, Emily has requested BHRR to present to her classroom about what BHRR does in the community for animals on April 8th, 2010.
Karla Briones of Global Pet Foods – Kanata will be on A Channel December 22nd, 2009 @ 7:55 AM to promote ‘pet gift ideas’ and she will be taking that opportunity to also promote the 2010 Calendar that BHRR will be the recipient of whereby all monies raised will continue to allow us to help animals in need. ONLY 150 Calendars on sale!
On Monday December 14th, 2009; Sue Bird of Urban Dog Photography was on Rogers Ottawa Daytime(see segment) promoting her work plus BHRR. As this was a very recent request made to BHRR; we are unable to attend yet THANKS so much Sue. Sue also had Karla from Global Pet Foods Kanata in attendance to launch the 2010 Calendar that BHRR will be the recipient of all monies raised. On October 13th, 2009; BHRR was contacted by Algonquin Journalism Student, K. De Sousa and did an interview for an article for their school magazine, GLUE.
On October 7th, 2009; BHRR was contacted by Alanna Street, Residential Staff, Mathematics Teacher, Director of Community Service of Ashbury College in regards to participating in their Community Service Volunteer Fair being held on February 2nd, 2010.
On August 22nd, 2009; BHRR was asked by fellow work colleague and Veterinary Technician student, T. Davis; if she could organize a small fundraiser for BHRR as part of her 2009/2010 course curriculum in the 2009/2010 while attending the Algonquin College. This Fundraiser(Dog Collar Sales) is running November 1st – November 30th, 2009. $200.98 was raised for BHRR
On May 20th, 2009; BHRR was contacted for our input by B. Cole to say that he shall be doing a ‘media’ spot with Sandra from 105.3 KISS FM on Thursday May 21st, 2009 @ 7:05 AM in respect to our current ‘food’ plight at BHRR.
On May 6th, 2009; BHRR was contacted by R. Zitkova; a journalism student currently working for CTV news wanting to do a story on BHRR in relation to a food donation drive that K. Clark-Bidgood; her family plus friends started called ‘Five 4 Food’ as BHRR is down to their last 3 bags of food. Please contact Kaitlyn directly should you wish to donate funds or bags of food.
On April 21st, 2009; BHRR was contacted by A. Street, Director of Community Service at Ashbury College; to determine if BHRR would be open to participating in their Ashbury Volunteer Fair. Every fall, Ashbury organizes a Leadership Conference for their grade 10 students.
On Sunday February 15th, 2009; BHRR was contacted by T. Belbeck to do a presentation to her Vet Ass’t/Tech communications class at St. Lawrence College in Kingston on Tuesday April 7th, 2009.
On Thursday October 16th, 2008; BHRR was contacted by A. Singh about doing a segment on CBC’s Living in Ottawa; and taping this on Thursday October 23rd, 2008.
On Sunday September 7th, 2008; we did the Wiggle Waggle walk in support of the Ottawa Humane Society and we were covered on the news(channel not yet determined) with 5 of our Great Danes.
On Sunday August 17th, 2008; The EMC came out to do a story on BHRR and our KAH/BHRR Fundraiser. Thanks so much Rebecca in giving us a copy of the article!!!
On August 17th, 2008; from 9:30 AM – 11:30 AM The Rogers Community Cruiser shall be visiting our KAH/BHRR Microchip/ Nail Trim / BBQ Fundraising Event @ the Kanata Animal Hospital on 440 Hazeldean Road. They shall be handing out free Tim Horton’s Coffee plus Timbits in addition to providing media coverage that shall air on their channel; Rogers TV Ottawa Cable 22. Thank you to N. Costello, Publicity Officer of Rogers TV in offering BHRR this wonderful community service.
BHRR was contacted by L. Manson on Thursday February 7th, 2008 about doing a segment on CBC’s Living in Ottawa; which is a lifestyles type show. You can see who they are and what they do on their website at www.cbc.ca/livinginottawa They will be at our home on the afternoon of February 26th to do a taping. I will have to find out if I can obtain a tape of the segment and when it shall be showing on TV.

BHRR re-aired on RTV22’s daytime on Wednesday January 4th, 2006 as one of RTV 22’s daytime’s top stories of 2005′. WOW! We were originally LIVE on RTV22 on daytime @ 11 AM on Friday October 28th, 2005 and have a tape of our segment of this appearance.
