January saw two devastating losses to my heart….every dog I am entrusted carves their own special place in my heart….

I am very hands on with all of my dogs….

January 29th, 2025 I had to let go of Miss Giselle…

This beautiful Great Dane creature has graced my life for almost 9.5 years and she was working on almost 11 years young when I had to cross her over. You almost made 11….and if you did, I would have wanted 12, then 13 and more…

I promise every dog quality of life, and no matter how I may want my heart to be selfish and have more time, I have kept that promise to Miss Giselle and to every dog and shall remain doing so.

Not how I wanted to spend the beginning moments of my work shift, yet after taking a bad fall on the 28th, her degenerative myelopathy-ridden body could not take any more. It was time, and my heart was shattered. No time to mourn or grieve on the 29th as I had to be on the floor as other patients needed me.

Special thanks to MD, CW and BM along with AG, MK and ZB for your hugs and kindness.

Thanks to AS, JR for the hair, and prints and thanks to KF, MC, KG for also helping to get her into my car after work this AM to take her home to lay to eternal rest.

I bought her into my rescue so long ago and when no one wanted to adopt her after I got her healthy, I moved her to our rescue Haven program, and she had lived with me from day 1 of her arrival into BHRR.

She lived a life of hell prior to rescue and the day I picked her up, I drove many hours straight to my work to have her vetting begin, she was in that rough of shape.

I also want to thank Barb for being so sweet as to offer to stay to help place her catheter. As hard as it was, I did the placement myself.

We never have our precious animals long enough….

I remain blessed to have such wonderful people to work with and this grand Dame has left a massive hole in my heart and home. Her personality was enormous and her backbone like iron. Not many Giants make double digits and it is heartbreaking when a dog’s heart and spirit is as strong as ever, yet their body seriously failed them….

Thank you to AS at work for offering to make me nose and paw prints and to put aside a bit of her hair…..

See you in my dreams….until we meet again My Giselle.  She is now laid to rest with all those that have passed before her….come spring she will have her own special plant planted in her beautiful honour.

A true legend has left us…..
